Kettering moves forward with $5.6M fire station project

Kettering city council voted unanimously to move forward with the construction of a new $5 million fire station on Dorothy Lane at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

The new fire station, Station 37 will be constructed at 1300 West Dorothy Lane and is part of a multi-phase construction project to build four state-of-the-art fire stations. The resolution presented to council was to allow City Manager Mark Schwieterman to start the bidding process for its construction.

The overall project, which begun in 2006, started with Station 32 at 3484 Far Hills Ave., then Fire Headquarters and Emergency Operations Center (Station 36) at 4745 Hempstead Station Dr. and Station 34 at 2575 Woodman Drive.

Station 37 will be the final part of the project, which totals an estimated $29.6 million for all four stations.
