Deadly shooting near hospital apparent murder-suicide, Massillon police say

UPDATE @ 11:35 p.m.: A doctor was shot to death Monday afternoon and the shooter apparently shot himself to death in what Massillon police are investigating as a murder-suicide, according to media reports from Massillon in Stark County.

Police Chief Keith Moser told CBS affiliate WOIO-TV that Dr. George Seese was leaving Affinity Medical Center and getting into his car in the afternoon when a man, later identified as 50-year-old Michael Wood, approached him in the parking lot and opened fire with a handgun at close range.

“He would have been almost right up on top of him," Moser said.

Seese, a cardiologist was struck at least twice and later died.

Wood was found dead near his vehicle.

Moser said it appears the shooter targeted the doctor specifically. Officials said the two men had a mutual love interest.

UPDATE @ 3:55 p.m.: One person was shot in the parking lot of Affinity Medical Center in Massillon Monday afternoon and then the gunman took his own life according to Massillon police.

Police also report the person the shooter attacked is a doctor at the Affinity Medical Center.

The gunman died from the self-inflicted injuries in the parking lot.  There is currently no update regarding the condition of the doctor.

Massillon Police are responding to a reported shooting at the Affinity Medical Center according to our media partners.

A representative with the hospital said they were under a “code silver.”

A "code silver" is defined as either a combative patient with a lethal weapon is on the loose or a violent situation is unfolding and lock down is in place.
