Miamisburg extends ban on medical marijuana

A moratorium on medical marijuana has been extended for nine months in Miamisburg.

The city action this week lengthens through October the 180-day ban the Miamisburg City Council approved last August on issuing on permits for a marijuana-based business until state legislators decide what the rules are for distributing marijuana in Ohio.

The action taken Tuesday night follows the Troy City Council vote Monday to reject proposed medical marijuana regulations for that city. Other cities in the area have also approved moratoriums on the issue.

The state is in the process of finalizing rules on medical marijuana and the moratorium will give Miamisburg more time to evaluate how it wants to move forward on the issue, City Planner Ryan Homsi said.
