Miamisburg police increase presence in area of double fatal wreck

A weekend double fatal automobile accident has Miamisburg police stepping up enforcement in the area of the wreck.

Two West Carrollton women died after the accident at the corner of King Richard Parkway and Merry John Drive early Saturday morning. Speeding – a common neighborhood issue, according to residents - was said to be a factor.

Miamisburg police are increasing their presence in the area, city officials said, after the wreck that killed Carol Pressel, 27, and Courtney Cole, 23.

Police are “giving some additional attention to traffic enforcement in that area in the aftermath” of the wreck “and the subsequent elevated concern of some residents,” according to Miamisburg Public Information Officer Gary Giles.

Neighborhood residents have said motorists “abuse this street terribly,” easily surpassing the 25 mile per hour speed limit at times. Police indicate speeding is “no more frequently than some other parts of our community and less than several other areas,” according to Giles.

Alcohol is also suspected as a factor in the accident, according to police, and Pressel was not wearing a seatbelt.
