Monroe road to close for 3 weeks

A portion of Todhunter Road is closed to all traffic for as long as three weeks to complete repairs after the road collapsed last month.

Dan Arthur, Monroe’s public works director, said the immediate road closure was necessary because of a void space under the road and about a 27-inch wide sanitary sewer line that caused a portion of the road to collapse last month and rendered it impassible at 608 Todhunter Road.

The city closed the road for two days last week so the contractor could complete the installation of a section of sanitary sewer line, make the tie-in and cross Todhunter Road.

In early February, city crews found that the road had sunk about three inches as a result of the sewer line break. Traffic has been restricted and maintained during the construction period.

Bob Leventry, Butler County Water and Sewer director, said the emergency installation project will cost about $380,000 to install about 1,000 feet of plastic pipe to replace the former concrete pipe.

Arthur said he has talked this through with the school bus garage to formulate an alternative route. He also said Duke Energy is also in the loop and well aware since they dispatch out of their complex in the project area.

Arthur said the road will be impassable during this portion of the project and property owners east and west of 626 Todhunter Road will need to access their property from the appropriate side.

Arthur said if residents have any questions, they should call his office 513-727-8953.
