Ohio, Michigan teachers get top pay

According to the Ohio department of education, as of the 2011-12 school year, there are 108,000 full-time equivalent teachers in Ohio. As of the 2014-15 school year, there are over 1.6 million Prek-16 students in Ohio. Even with such a disparate gap between teachers and students, a 2016 study by WalletHub, lists Ohio among states most friendly to teachers. The rankings are based on two dimensions; job opportunity and competition and academic and work environment. These dimensions were comprised of various metrics, each graded on a 100-point scale.

Here is how Ohio stacks up against other states:

1. New Jersey

Total score: 63.26

Job opportunity and competition rank: 17th

Academic and work environment rank: 2nd

18. Ohio

Total score: 54.76

Job opportunity and competition rank: 15th

Academic and work environment rank: 27th

25. Indiana

Total score: 53.00

Job opportunity and competition rank: 27th

Academic and work environment rank: 18th

31. Michigan

Total score: 48.51

Job opportunity and competition rank: 31st

Academic and work environment rank: 42nd

51. Hawaii

Total score: 22.22

Job opportunity and competition rank: 51st

Academic and work environment rank: 47th

Ohio was also among the highest annual salaries (adjusted for cost of living):
