Ohio State Fair ride tragedy: State decides not to fine, sanction Fire Ball operator

The Ohio Department of Agriculture has decided not to fine Amusements of America or sanction the company in the aftermath of the deadly incident involving the Fire Ball ride at the Ohio State Fair in July.

The department released its investigative summary Friday morning about the incident that ended in the death of Tyler Jarrell on July 26 when the ride broke apart. Seven other people were injured.

Jarrell, a high school senior, had just enlisted in the Marine Corps.

Department officials, in the summary, said that while ride operator Amusements of America notified the state immediately, the company failed to file a report within 24 hours as required by law.

A department spokesman told 10tv.com the company can still operate rides in Ohio starting in 2018 as long as the rides pass inspection and the company secures the proper permits.
