Pet adoption center wins preliminary OK for new facility

SICSA, a non-profit pet adoption center and animal shelter, could be opening a facility in Washington Twp., according to preliminary development plans submitted to the township.

The adoption center is looking to build a 20,000 square-foot building, proposed on Washington Church Road, north of Lyons Road and overlooking Interstate 675.

SICSA is the only “no kill” facility of its kind in the region.

According to applications submitted to the township, SICSA has rescued and adopted over 7,500 animals. They’ve also performed over 6,900 spays and neuters over the last two years.

Township trustees approved the preliminary plans at a trustee meeting earlier this week. SICSA is still obligated to proceed with the final development plan vetting process, according to Washington Twp. Zoning Ryan Lee.
