Pike Co. killings: 3 remaining questions

It has been nearly six month since eight member of the Rhoden family were killed execution style in their homes in Pike County.

While the investigation is going, plenty of questions are still unanswered and whomever committed this crime remains a mystery.

To the frustration of the community and investigators, this case remains unsolved.

Here are three questions that remain about the April 22 slayings in Pike County.

Eight Rhoden family members were found dead April 22 at four homes in Pike County. STAFF

Who pulled the trigger?

This is one question that has no answer, just theories and speculation.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has said that these murders were “well planned” and that they were most likely planned out by more than one person.

“It really is like putting together a big, say thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle,” DeWine said.

A lot of the information has been kept under wraps to maintain credibility of something somebody could tell investigators.

It is also unclear whether or not the killer/killers knew the family, but it is likely that they “Knew the area.”

Is this the killer’s first murder?

Two weeks before the Rhoden family was killed and about 100 miles away in Kenton County, another shooting occurred that showed similarities to the one in Pike County.

The report states that a well-known drug dealer and his girlfriend were shot to death execution style in their bed just two weeks before the shootings in Pike County occurred.

“There were similarities between both,” Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders told WSYX in Columbus. “I think the situations are related to drug dealing, not how the victims were killed.”

What did the final autopsy reports say?

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office just recently released the autopsies of the murdered members of the Rhoden family.

Autopsies were completed by the Hamilton County Coroner who helped with the investigation.

The reports show the cause of death and the number of times each family member was shot.

We are currently reviewing the long, detailed reports and will report any new information as it becomes available.
