Slingshot possibly used on U.S. 35, car windows broken

Two vehicles had windows broken, including a Dayton police cruiser, by what police believe may have been someone using a slingshot while driving on U.S. 35 in Dayton.

Police responded to the area of U.S. 35 near Steve Whalen Boulevard around 6 p.m. Wednesday after a man called police saying his vehicle window was shot out, according to a police report.

A Dayton police officer also reported he heard a loud impact to the driver’s side rear window of his cruiser and discovered the glass window was gone, the report said.

The officer searched through the broken glass and discovered a 1.4-inch steel ball bearing in the debris, the report showed.

Police reported they believed the suspects may have been driving in the center lane of the highway when “they were using a slingshot to shoot ball bearings to break windows,” the report read.

No arrests were listed in the report.
