Springfield police awaiting autopsy report in death investigation

SPRINGFIELD -- (UPDATE @ 6:30 p.m. (May 1): Detectives are awaiting autopsy results before they determine how they will move forward investigating the death of Darlene K. Stocks, who was found in a home on North Race Street.

Kirk Rice, her fiance, found the 44-year-old Springfield woman in the residence Friday night, surrounded by a pool of blood, according to a Springfield Police Division report.

Capt. Mike Varner said detectives will continue to label this death as suspicious until a coroner’s report becomes available.

(UPDATE @ 11:05 p.m.):

Police are trying to determine whether the woman lives in the duplex where she was found dead. They are also trying to determine her age. The Clark County coroner's investigator has arrived.

INITIAL REPORT

Springfield police have opened a death investigation after a woman’s body was found in one side of a duplex in the 200 block of North Race Street.

The discovery was called in about 7:52 p.m. and police at this point are treating the death as suspicious.
