Student’s work sets table for practice field

Donated on Dec. 4, the tables were done as part of Parin’s Eagle Scout project. The 4-feet-by-6-feet tables will be used for water and equipment.

“I wanted my Eagle Scout project to somehow involve Miamisburg Middle School,” said Patrick. “I also wanted to help out the football team. Since the new stadium had been built, I knew there would be nothing that needed done there. I spoke with Mr. Shade last year and he told me that the middle school football team really needed new tables to use outdoors during practice. I had never built tables before. It seemed like a great project to try.”

Patrick’s parents are Dave and Kelly Parin of Miamisburg. He has a 13-year-old brother, Wyatt.

Beginning in the seventh grade, Patrick wanted to be a part of something in school. “I wanted to feel like I belonged to something,” said Patrick. “My teacher, Ms. Hooper, suggested to my parents that I could be the team manager for seventh-grade football. She took me to practice that August and showed me what to do. I loved being the manager and I have done it every year since.

“I discovered my love for football after I became manager. I did not have a big interest in football, until I became a manager. My teammates explained the game to me, and then I began to have a true love for football.”

Going on high adventure trips and camping with the Boy Scouts was also a love for Patrick. “We camp every month. I also love helping others. I’ve gotten to volunteer at Helping Hands Food Pantry. I’ve also served food at Parkview Church’s Election Day Dinner.”

His biggest accomplishment has been attending the Boy Scout Jamboree last summer in West Virginia. “I spent 10 days camping and doing high adventure activities. I met Boy Scouts from all over the world. I also am proud of the camping trip my troop takes every other January. We camp in Owen Sound, Canada, which is the sister city to Miamisburg. We camp in the snow and do fun, outdoor activities with scouts.”

One of the assistant Scoutmasters in Troop 402, Lori Frankart, who has known Patrick for the last six years, said, “I have seen Patrick grow from a young boy who was looking up to the older boys to learn new skills and what it meant to be a leader; into the young man he is now, who is providing that leadership and helping out the younger scouts.

“Patrick is one of the most dedicated young men that I have met. He has had a goal to earn his Eagle Scout rank since early in his Boy Scout time, with this goal he has worked very hard on his plan to complete all the requirements towards this highest accomplishment in Boy Scouts. With just two merit badges to complete, I have all confidence that Patrick will achieve this goal in 2018.”

Patrick is versatile and has many goals. “I love to cook and practice driving. I am hoping to get my driver’s license in a few months. I want to attend Sinclair (Community) College (in Dayton) and go to culinary school. I want to own my own food truck someday, as well. I hope to achieve my Eagle Scout in a few months after scout master conference and board of review.”
