Trotwood renames road to help local businesses

The city of Trotwood has agreed to rename a road after nearby businesses complained that customers were not able to find their establishments using GPS.

Service Road A, located near the 2500 block of Shiloh Springs Road, is home to more than 10 businesses, including a barbershop, dance studio and a health center.

The road will be renamed as Colbert Road. The change will be finalized in August.

Marquetta Colbert, who started the health center on Service Road A six years ago, said the inability to find a valid address for her business has frustrated her clients.

“It has presented a number of problems with transportation,” said Colbert, nurse practitioner and owner of Colbert Family Health and Wellness. “Especially with patients driving on their own, using cabs or riding the RTA.”

Colbert said she began working to get the name of the road changed last year, but ran into difficulties as Trotwood was going through changes in city leadership.

Colbert spoke before the city council during a public meeting last week.

City Manager Quincy Pope said the name change would be beneficial to businesses, but it would take time to make it happen.

“You have to go through the approval of the planning department,” Pope said. “Once there is a 30-day hearing before city council, we can make that change in the name.”
