Where to safely get rid of unwanted prescriptions in Butler County

April 29 is Prescription Drug Take Back Day and there will be several locations throughout Butler County where residents can safely dispose of unwanted prescriptions.

Local police will team up the Drug Enforcement Administration at drop-off locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Butler County drop-off locations are:

  • Oxford Twp. Police Dept., 925 Collins Run Road
  • Talawanda High School, 5301 University Park Blvd.
  • West Chester Walgreens parking lot, 7804 Cincinnati-Dayton Road
  • Liberty Twp. fire station, 6682 Princeton-Glendale Road
  • Hamilton Police Dept., 331 South Front St.
  • Fairfield Police Department, 5230 Pleasant Ave.

The take-back day helps prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office.

OVERDOSE EPIDEMIC: Group fears deaths will only worsen

“In light of the current opioid epidemic in Butler County, proper disposal of unused prescription drugs is vitally important now more than ever,” said Butler County Coroner Dr. Lisa Mannix, Butler County Coroner. “Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse.”

Liquids and needles are not accepted; only pills or patches.

The service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked, according to officials.
