Medical marijuana: 46 more doctors approved to recommend. Is yours one?

The State Medical Board of Ohio has now cleared 185 physicians — 46 during the past month — to recommend treatment with marijuana, including doctors in Beavercreek, Centerville, Dayton, Enon, Mason, Middletown, Springboro, Springfield, Washington Twp. and West Chester.

The federal government prohibits doctors prescribing marijuana. Instead, patients must have a recommendation from a certified physician holding an unrestricted MD or DO license who have completed at least two hours of continuing medical education that will assist in diagnosing qualifying conditions, according to the medical board.

Marijuana was supposed to be in the hands of patients in early September, but that deadline won’t be met, officials said this month.

Provisional cultivator licenses were granted in November last year and now one grower has been fully certified. In June, Ohioans learned where 56 dispensaries that with provisional licenses will be located.
