Inauguration events continue in Dayton

Whether you’re for President-elect Donald Trump or against him there’s plenty to do for his inauguration locally if you can’t make it to D.C.

Local inauguration watch party

The Montgomery County Republican Party will hold an inauguration watch party and luncheon Jan. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Dayton Country Club, 555 Kramer Rd., Dayton. Hot soup and a salad bar will be available for $17.50 per person.

To reserve a seat and pay for the meal contact the Montgomery County Republican Party Headquarters at 937-461-1776. You can get tickets from the party's office at 2600 Far Hills Ave., Suite 100, Oakwood, or pay online at the party's website at www.mcohio.gop.

Local inaugural gala

For those who want to celebrate the inauguration in semi-formal finery but can’t get to Washington, D.C. the Montgomery County Republican Party is holding an Inaugural Gala Jan. 20 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Presidential Banquet Center, 4572 Presidential Way, Kettering. It is open to the public.

The cost is $35 for the gala, which includes hor d’oeuvres, coffee, tea and music. A cash bar is also available.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the county party office or online at the county party website.

Anti-Nauguration Rally

Trump opponents will hold an Anti-Nauguration Rally on Jan. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Courthouse Square at Third and Main streets in downtown Dayton.

The event will include speakers, poetry and protest, according to the organizers' Facebook page.

The rally is hosted by the Miami Valley Progressive Caucus.

Women’s March On Washington sister event in Dayton

On Saturday, Jan. 21 hundreds of thousands of people are expected at the Women’s March on Washington. The event began as a post on Facebook in the wake of Trump’s election and has grown into a major event that will include busloads of people from the Dayton region.

Sister marches will be held in Dayton and at least 270 other cities all over the world in solidarity with those marching in Washington D.C.

Dayton’s will be held Jan. 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Courthouse Square at 3rd and Main streets in Dayton.

It is sponsored by the Dayton Women's Rights Alliance and Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio.

Panel Discussion on Women’s March

Activists who participated in the Women’s March on Washington will discuss it at Wright State University on Jan. 23 from 11:20 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Millett Hall 401.

The panel features Reaman, pastor of Tree of Life Community: A Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Dayton and Dr. Gabriela Pickett, a social and environmental activist, artist and curator of the Missing Peace Art Space in Dayton.

The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the WSU Peace Lecture Committee and Women’s Center.
