Trump: OSU attacker shouldn’t have been in U.S.

President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter to announce that Abdul Razak Ali Artan, the man gunned down after attacking students at Ohio State University, shouldn’t have been in the United States.

“ISIS is taking credit for the terrible stabbing attack at Ohio State University by a Somali refugee who should not have been in our country,” Trump tweeted.

Artan was in his first semester at Ohio State after graduating with honors from Columbus State Community College in May.

Authorities have said he was born in Somalia and came to the United States from Pakistan in 2014.

Law enforcement officials say they do not yet have a motive for the attack, but are examining a possible terrorism angle. A Facebook post believed to be written by Artan shortly before the attack made a reference to lone-wolf attacks.

An August article on Artan by the campus newspaper, The Lantern, also quoted him as saying he was nervous about saying his Muslim prayers in public.

Artan was shot dead by an Ohio State police officer Monday morning after driving his car into a crowd of students outside Watts Hall and stabbing several people. In all, 11 were injured, though none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The media arm for the Islamic State Tuesday claimed Artan was inspired by the terrorist organization’s jihadist message.
