Florida woman mailed drugs to daughter in jail, deputies say

A Florida woman was arrested Thursday after deputies said she was caught mailing drugs to her daughter in jail.

Nadine Carroll, 55, mailed an envelope addressed to her daughter, Shannon Carroll, in the Stock Island Detention Center in September, but it was intercepted after a detention deputy noticed "a chemical smell" coming from it, a Monroe County Sheriff's Office news release said.

Deputies tested the unknown substance inside the envelope and determined that it was buprenorphine, a synthetic opioid.

Carroll was arrested on charges of smuggling contraband into a detention facility. Her daughter was arrested last month for driving with a suspended license and possession of cocaine.
