Lochte fell on his verbal sword during an interview with Lauer that started airing over the weekend. The entire interview airs during Monday’s “Today” show.
“I’m taking full responsibility,” Lochte said. “I over-exaggerated that story. If I hadn’t done that we wouldn’t be in this mess. None of this would have happened. It was my immature behavior.”
Bush showed a willingness to view things from Lochte’s perspective. While the harrowing tale the celebrity athletes initially gave was fantastically embellished, his teammate, UGA Gunnar Bentz said in a statement that the swimmers did indeed have a weapon pointed in their direction after Lochte banged up a sign and security guards responded, demanding money.
Roker wasn’t impressed, saying, “We agree to disagree.”
