Teacher’s beloved dog vanishes; students give him incredible surprise

An Alabama teacher’s heart was broken when his beloved dog Chip disappeared from his home.

The 11 1/2-year-old golden retriever had gone blind.

But every day, Troy Rogers’ students would ask if there had been an update on Chip. Had he been found?

Every day Rogers would answer no, figuring Chip ran off to die, so the seniors at Clements High School knew what to do.

They raised almost $700 to get Rogers a new puppy to fill the void left by Chip, WHNT reported.

The students donated to the cause and asked Rogers’ co-workers to contribute.

A few weeks ago, a co-worker of Rogers asked him to come to her room to check something out.

Little did Rogers know it was a setup.

His wife was there, with tears in her eyes, along with a classroom of students and his new puppy.

At first he was surprised by the students crowding the room, then he noticed something, a golden retriever puppy.

“Then he saw her, and you could tell he teared up and his face turned red. You could see the excitement in his eyes,” Miranda Ezell, a student at Clements, told the ABC news-talk show “Good Morning America.”

Rogers and his wife allowed the students to give their new puppy her name. They picked Clementine in honor of the school mascot, WHNT reported.

Rogers said he’s going to reciprocate the good deed and donate the same amount they spent on Clementine to their senior class fundraiser.

“I think a lot of people don’t give teenagers the credit they deserve for the good hearts and kindness they have,” Rogers told “Good Morning America”. “I’m never surprised by how good they are.”
