New $62M medical center set to open near Liberty Center

The medical boom is about to get bigger in Butler County.

Christ Hospital Health Network will start seeing patients Monday at the health system’s new $62 million medical center in Liberty Twp.

Located on 17 acres at 6939 Cox Road near the Interstate 75 interchange with Ohio 129, the new Christ Hospital Medical Center-Liberty Twp. includes an emergency room and offers surgical services including operating rooms with extended recovery for patients, plus a state-of-the-art family birthing center, radiology and imaging, physical therapy, general surgery, dermatology, endocrinology, podiatry.

There are also physician services such as primary care, orthopedics, cardiology, urology and more.

At 119,616 square feet, the facility is the largest ever built by the health system other than the hospital’s main campus in Cincinnati’s Mount Auburn neighborhood.

“It really emanated from a strategic plan we put together in 2010,” Victor DiPilla, Christ Hospital Health Network’s vice president and chief business development officer, told this media outlet. “We identified growth opportunities for the network and one of those was Butler County, (which) was predicated on the fact that it was the fastest growing county in Ohio and because of the opportunity for providing more community services in that area.”

The family birthing center offers a boutique-like experience for expectant mothers and their families, including extra-large showers with seats, digital displays to educate and inform patients and a kitchenette area with a microwave, coffee maker and mini-refrigerator.

Christ Hospital Medical Center-Liberty Twp. was designed with patients and families in mind, offering features like spacious rooms, ample light and glass, garden areas and plug-ins for “every type of technology that patients or families might bring with them,” said Deborah Hayes, Christ Hospital Health Network’s vice president and chief operating officer.

The facility’s expedited emergency option, Express Care, is a sub-section of the emergency department that is meant for patients who have less serious complaints, Hayes said.

“The goal will be to have them moved through the system and be in and out in about 60 to 90 minutes so that they’re not held up by more complex patients,” she said.

Coming this spring will be walking paths, a gazebo and outdoor physical therapy areas, Hayes said.

Construction started in fall 2015 on the facility, which is designed to be easy to maneuver, DiPilla said.

“It’s relatively small in size so it allows patients to navigate the various services without tramping through the big medical complexes that often occur within a medical center,” he said.

Design of the facility dovetails well into where health care is headed as an enterprise — an ever-increasing focus on outpatient care, DiPilla said.

“While we … obviously will have patients overnight, it is not the focus of that center,” he said. “It is really more oriented towards providing cost-effective care, which is many times outpatient based.”

Christ Hospital Health Network has outpatient centers in Cincinnati’s Madisonville neighborhood, Anderson Twp., Green Twp., Liberty Twp., Montgomery and Fort Wright, Ky., plus more than 100 neighborhood offices.
