Big banks are cutting mortgage jobs nationally as the volume of home loan activity slows. Job cuts have come to include several hundred positions in Ohio, home to three major regional banks and other back-office service centers for the country’s largest financial institutions.

Banks cut mortgage processing jobs in Ohio:
- JPMorgan Chase & Co. notified employees Aug. 8 of plans to cut 300 Central Ohio jobs, mainly in the mortgage business
- Wells Fargo Home Mortgage announced Aug. 7 it’s eliminating 68 mortgage-related jobs in West Chester Twp.
- Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Bancorp said Monday in response to questions it has made “limited reductions” in mortgage staff
