Greene County Administrator Howard Poston announced plans, on Thursday, to retire from his position in February, according to a county official.
“I’m sad to see Howard retiring,” said Greene County Commissioner Bob Glaser. “His services will be greatly missed by Greene County.”
Poston has been working for the county for 22 years and earns an estimated $132,488 annually in salary and benefits, according to data from the county auditor.
Before he was hired for the county administrator position in 2003, Poston worked as the assistant county administrator for seven years.
Poston could not be reached for comment late Thursday.
Thursday’s announcement came 16 months after county commissioners approved a three year contract for Poston in April 2012. Under the agreement, Poston was guaranteed a 2 percent annual raise and six months severance pay if he was terminated before the contract ended on March 21, 2015.
