Dayton Crayons to Classrooms announced this week it has reached the $3 million milestone in school supplies distributed to teachers of students in need.
The nonprofit serves high-need schools in the greater Dayton area. During shopping visits, teachers can shop for needed school supplies including crayons, notebooks and incentive items. Crayons to Classrooms works like a regular retail store in that teachers come in, shop for what they need and put the merchandise in their carts. The only thing missing is the cash register. Based on the generosity of community partners and individual donors, the group reached a total of $3,029,573 in merchandise distributed to local schools.
“Since opening our doors in 2009, we have served 42 schools and over 1,600 teachers of students in need in Montgomery County. Whether it is assistance from a supply drive, a volunteer program or financial donations, we are very grateful for all the help we received from the Dayton-area community and making this milestone a reality,” executive director Steve Rubenstein said in a news release.
