Butler Township could award the bid for its Commerce Center Drive sidewalk project to a contractor as early as September.
The plan is to install sidewalks on both sides of Commerce Center Drive from Benchwood Road up to Sam’s Club entrance, 6955 Miller Lane.
The $250,000 project could be completed as early as November.
Township officials hope the sidewalks will improve the walk ability of the business district and make the area more pedestrian friendly. They also would like to do more landscaping in York Commons, according to Kim Lapensee, township administrator.
“It will be funded with Harson Tax Increment Financing monies, which is made up of multiple properties along York Commons, Commerce Center and Miller Lane,” Lapensee said. She added that TIF allows the township to use money for capital improvement projects.
“It was a request from Singer Properties,” Lapensee said. But the township wanted the sidewalks as well. “I think we all share a common interest. We want that area to succeed.”
Shayna Kolodesh, co-owner Singer Properties, declined to comment on the project.
The request was made in September of 2011, according to a list of items for the York Commons TIF District Improvements that were mentioned in a document filed in the township.
“The trustees voted last year to approve the engineering for sidewalks in all of the business district where there are no sidewalks,” Lapensee said.
She said that the township is waiting for their engineer to completed easement language for permanent and temporary work easements to complete the project. After easements are secured, the township will bid out the project.
