Oakwood moves today’s high school track meet to old stadium

Oakwood High School’s track meet scheduled for today at Lane Stadium has been moved to Mack Hummon Stadium, due to delays in finishing lane striping at the district’s new athletic complex, according to Oakwood schools Community Relations Director Traci Hale.

While the track has been surfaced, it still hasn’t been striped for completion. Hale said striping should be done some time this week, again depending on weather.

Lane striping was set for last Thursday, but rain caused the project to be delayed again.

The district was set to start on the track surface and press box installation March 30 to have the facility up and running when students returned from spring break April 10, but has been continually pushed back due to unsatisfactory weather.

Snow and rainy conditions delayed the track and press box installations, resulting in changes of venue for team practices and lacrosse games, including a boy’s home game being moved to an away game last week.

The stadium’s press box was installed Wednesday afternoon.

Oakwood unveiled the $4 million athletic stadium during a dedication ceremony in March.
