New WSU president 1 of 6 new area hires - all in the last 8 months

Here’s what you should know about these six new presidents:

Gregory Crawford, Miami University: Crawford became Miami University's 22nd president last July. Before coming to Miami, he was an associate provost and professor of physics at the University of Notre Dame. Prior to his time at Notre Dame, he worked at Brown University, where he was dean of engineering from 2006-08. Crawford, an Ohio native, replaced David Hodge, who retired.

Herman J. Felton Jr., Wilberforce University: Wilberforce's 21st president, Felton also took the post last July. Felton came to the university from Livingstone College in North Carolina, where he served as senior vice president, COO and vice president of institutional advancement. He previously worked as the director of development at Murray State University in Kentucky.

Michael Frandsen, Wittenberg University: Frandsen was selected last month as Wittenberg's 15th president and will take the office July 1. He currently serves as vice president for finance and administration at Oberlin College. Prior to joining Oberlin in 2014, Frandsen spent 10 years at Albion College in Michigan. Prior to his higher education career, the Ohio native spent 10 years working in the corporate finance sector.

Neville G. Pinto, University of Cincinnati: Pinto was named the University of Cincinnati's 30th president in December and started the job in February. Pinto most recently served as acting president and professor of chemical engineering at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. From May 2015 to July 2016, he served as interim executive vice president and provost at Louisville. He replaced Santa Ono, who stepped down to take the top post at the University of British Columbia.

Cheryl Schrader, Wright State University: Schrader has been chancellor of the Missouri University of Science and Technology since 2012. Missouri S&T, located in Rolla, Mo., is a college of just less than 9,000 students. Schrader grew up in Illinois and received her bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Valparaiso University and her master's and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame. She will begin the job on July 1, taking over the position currently held by David Hopkins.

Eric Spina, University of Dayton: Spina became UD's 19th president last July, taking over for Dan Curran. Spina, the former vice chancellor and provost at Syracuse University, is UD's second lay president, following Curran, who held the position for 14 years.
