36 Ohio college presidents meet in D.C.: Here’s what they’re saying

Ohio college presidents gathered in Washington, D.C today as part of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s annual “college presidents conference.”

Around 36 college presidents attended the meeting to hear from legislators and leaders on issues in higher education such as Pell grants, student support programs and accessibility.

University of Dayton president Eric Spina attended, as did Wright State University’s incoming president Cheryl Schrader, Central State University president Cynthia Jackson-Hammond, Wittenberg University’s Michael Frandsen, the University of Cincinnati’s Neville Pinto, Cincinnati State’s Monica Posey, Kettering College of Medical Arts’ Nate Brandstater and Clark State Community College’s Jo Alice Blondin.

During the meeting, Brown announced that his “Propel Ohio: Collegiate Leadership Summit” will take place at the University of Akron in November. Last year the summit was hosted by the University of Dayton.

“It is a great opportunity for me to learn from our college presidents, and for each of them to learn from each other,” Brown said in a prepared statement. “I’m committed to working with Ohio colleges and universities to ensure that all Ohioans have access to an affordable, quality education.”
