Ohio stores sold two ice cream products in recall

Two ice cream manufacturers issued recalls for items that could make consumers ill.

Nestle USA issued a voluntary recall of some of its drumstick ice cream products. The company announced the products — Drumstick Club 16-Count Variety Pack and the 24-Count Vanilla Pack — were recalled due to a possible health risk.

The company received positive test results for Listeria on equipment surfaces on the production line where these products are made. No positive test results for Listeria were present on the Drumstick cones, according to the company.

The products were distributed nationally.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. It can cause high fevers, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea and abdominal pain.

The product identification codes can be found on the back of the packages and on the individually marked vanilla cones from the 24-count pack. The two packs being recalled carry distinct UPC codes, as well as a "best before" date and production code. More information about the codes can be found here.

Turkey Hill Dairy, another ice cream manufacturer, also issued a recall on Oct. 7.

The company recalled its select 40 oz. containers of its Dutch Chocolate Premium Ice Cream due to a labeling issue.

Instead of dutch chocolate, the package may contain Rocky Road Premium Ice Cream. Only packages with Rocky Road lids and the “sell by” dare of May 23 are being recalled.

Ohio was an impacted state of this recall, and affected stores have been instructed to remove the product from shelves. All impacted packages would have been purchased in store after Sept. 8.

Turkey Hill did not receive any reports of illness. More information about the recall can be found here.
