5 reasons you need to try an escape room this summer

You and your friends are locked in a room and have an hour to solve all of the clues and escape.

That’s the premise behind breakout or escape rooms, which are growing in popularity.

Here’s what you need to know about escape rooms and why you need to experience one:

1. It builds teamwork.

The premise of most escape rooms is that you are locked within a room or place of some sort and must solve a series of tasks in order to complete your goal.

The games are designed to force teamwork to make it happen like few team-building experiences do.

2. You’re not in actual danger.

Escape rooms try to simulate some sort of threat to someone or something.

Breakout Dayton offers five themed escape rooms to try.

Many escape rooms don’t actually lock participants into the room for safety reasons, and if someone decides that they want to leave early then they can do so.

The point of escape rooms is to have fun, some will even offer refund you if you had a bad experience.

3. It’s puzzle-solving pushed to 11.

Love puzzles and riddles? Then you'll need to do an escape room. They're life-sized puzzles that have "consequences" for failure.  Normally escape rooms give participants an hour to solve the puzzles, except for a few exceptions like Key Quest.

4. It isn’t too expensive.

There are several escape rooms around Dayton, and all aren’t too pricey.

Great Escape Game, for instance, costs $26. Breakout Dayton is $24.99, and Key Quest is $15 for 45 minutes.

Great Escape Game and Breakout Dayton offer coupons so that people can pay a lower cost during weekdays.

5. There isn’t just one simulation.

All three companies offer several simulations so that anyone can find an escape to enjoy.

Want to pull a bank heist? There’s a simulation.

Ever want to be a spy like 007? There’s a simulation for it.

We set the record for the Museum Heist room!! #BreakoutDayton
