3 sent to hospital after fire at West Chester apartment complex

UPDATE @ 4 p.m.:

West Chester fire crews discovered a fire in the attic space of an apartment, according to Fire Chief Rick Prinz.

All of the apartments were evacuated.

Three people suffered smoke inhalation and one of those people suffered minor burns, according to Prinz. All three — who were described by the fire chief as younger adults — were transported to West Chester Hospital, he said.

Due to wind conditions, the fire spread “very quickly,” Prinz said.

No cause has been determined, he said.

As many as 10 families have been displaced by the fire, according to Prinz.

INITIAL REPORT:

West Chester Twp. officials say they have responded to a working fire at the Meadow Ridge apartment complex, near Muhlhauser Road.

Township spokeswoman Barb Wilson said numerous calls came in at around 2:40 p.m. today with reports of heavy black smoke.

She said she doesn’t have any information about injuries but said the fire department has called for mutual aid.

When sending flowers just won’t do

Flowers. Don’t send them. My former colleague, Tim, lost his beloved Uncle Bill this week. People sent flowers. That’s what they do at times like these. Tim says don’t do it. Not because he didn’t adore his uncle. Oh, how he adored him. Still does. “He’s the man who influenced me to become a journalist,” he...
