QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Q: How does this year’s team compare with The Big Red Machine? — JOE, BEAVERCREEK.
A: Well, the both wore ‘C’ on their caps and both had red in their uniforms. Other than that, well, no comparison. You are trying to compare this year’s team to perhaps the all-time best, in my humble opinion. It is like when a New York writer asked Reds manager Sparky Anderson to compare Yankees catcher Thurman Munson to Johnny Bench and he said, “Don’t ever embarrass a catcher by trying to compare him to Johnny Bench.” Sparky took a lot of flak for that, but he was right. And it is the same thing when one tries to compare a team to the 1975-76 Big Red Machine.
