It only takes one.
Northmont senior Josh Blanton got his first offer this week from Miami University.
Expect more to follow.
A 5-foot-11, 170-pound defensive back, Blanton wasn’t the only player Miami offered last week.
The Redhawks were busy.
Miami also offered Milton-Union offensive lineman Wesley Martin (6-3, 296), Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit linebacker Bryan DiCillo (6-2, 204), Hilliard Davidson defensive back Phillipie Motley (5-11, 175) and Princeton athlete Tyrell Gilbert (6-0, 198).
So far Miami has extended 32 offers to Ohio players. Some have already committed to other schools.
Additional uncommitted local players the Redhawks have offered include: Centerville offensive linemen Patrick Osterhage (6-4, 280) and Jared Weyler (6-4, 275) and Beavercreek linebacker Airius Moore (6-0, 215).
BCS suitor: Osterhage picked up his first offer from a BCS school recently and it was a big one — Virginia Tech. The Hokies have only offered four Ohio seniors (all lineman). Of those, the only other offensive lineman is Troy senior and Oklahoma verbal Alex Dalton (6-4, 280).
Future Bobcat: Miamisburg senior tight end Connor Brown (6-6, 220) committed to Ohio University on Saturday. Brown also owned offers from Bowling Green and Middle Tennessee. Brown didn’t earn All-Greater Western Ohio Conference honors and caught just 10 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown last year. Size, potential and great college camp workouts have landed Brown a free education.
Border wars: We’ve reported Wayne junior defensive back Tyree Kinnel’s offers from Kentucky and Arkansas. What we haven’t reported is an offer from Ohio State — yet. Kinnel (6-0, 190) camped at Ohio State Saturday and will camp at Michigan this upcoming weekend.
According to Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts.com: “Michigan is reported to be a school he is favoring and if the Wolverines offer after he camps there, they could be tough to beat. Watch this one after the weekend to see if the (OSU) staff extends that offer.”
Statewide update: Three additional Ohio players committed last week: Creston Norwayne defensive back Trevahn Beery (Western Michigan), Summit Country Day defensive lineman Michael Barwick Jr. (Indiana) and Massillon Washington offensive lineman Nathaniel Devers (Cincinnati).
Devers’ verbal sticks out, considering earlier this year Massillon head coach Jason Hall told the Canton Repository that “Cincinnati will not be allowed back in Massillon on our campus as long as Jason Hall is in Massillon.” The beef? A perceived notion that Bearcats coach Tommy Tuberville pulled then-Massillon quarterback Kyle Kempt’s offer. Kempt, who committed to UC and then-head coach Butch Jones last spring, has since landed at Oregon State.
New offer: Stebbins senior running back Jarred Brumfield (6-2, 215) added his second offer this week from Ohio. Western Michigan was his first.
