Despite a woeful offensive day that saw them gain 228 yards and go 1 of 10 on third down, the Bengals had a 6-3 lead until a Kendall Hunter touchdown run with 3:59 remaining put the 49ers ahead for good.
Sept. 25, 2005 – Cincinnati Bengals 24, Chicago Bears 7 at Soldier Field
Carson Palmer threw a pair of touchdown passes to Chad Johnson and one to Chris Henry while the Bengals defense intercepted Kyle Orton five times.
Sept. 25, 1994 – Houston Oilers 20, Cincinnati Bengals 13 at the Astrodome
Houston sacked David Klinger seven times and intercrpted three passes to get the win despite Oilers quarterback Cody Carlson completing 12 of 33 passes.
Sept. 25, 1989 – Cincinnati Bengals 21, Cleveland Browns 14 at Riverfront Stadium
Under the Monday Night Football lights, Boomer Esiason hit James Brooks with a 19-yard touchdown pass to break a 14-14 tie early in the third quarter to beat a Browns team that would go to play in the AFC Championship Game.
Sept. 25, 1988 – Cincinnati Bengals 24, Cleveland Browns 17 at Riverfront Stadium
Lewis Billups returned a fumble for a 26-yard touchdown two minutes into the game to give the Bengals a lead they would never relinquish despite an 8-of-23 passing performance by Boomer Esiason.
Sept. 25, 1983 – Cincinnati Bengals 23, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17 at Tampa Stadium
Ken Riley intercepted former teammate Jack Thompson and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown three minutes into the game to help the Bengals build a 20-0 lead on the way to their first win of the year after an 0-3 start.
Sept. 25, 1977 – Cincinnati Bengals 42, Seattle Seahawks 20 at Riverfront Stadium
The Bengals intercepted Jim Zorn three times, one of which Reggie Williams returned for a score, and Bengals running back Archie Griffin threw a touchdown pass to Lenvil Elliott with 6:01 remaining for the final points in the rout.
