5 major projects that have transformed schools and high school sports in the region

Oakwood High School will soon officially debut its new Lane Stadium, a turf field and track that will serve soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and track.

It is the latest in a series of school projects in the region that have produced buildings and athletic facilities.

Here are five recent projects you should know:

Oakwood Lane Stadium

For the first time in school history, Oakwood High School will have a dedicated sports facility to accommodate soccer, field hockey, boys and girls lacrosse and track.

The facility will include a regulation track, a first for the school, concessions building with training facilities and other amenities for athletes and spectators.

West Liberty-Salem Schools

Construction on the West Liberty-Salem K-12 building began in the spring of 2015 and is thought to be finished by this spring. The project includes renovations to the existing building and adding a 22,000-square-foot addition.

In addition to more classroom space, the renovation will include air conditioning throughout the entire school and technological upgrades like stronger Wi-Fi. When finished, the renovations and addition will have cost a total of $30 million.

Northmont High School

Northmont High School construction was completed in December 2015, and students began attending class in the building after that winter break. The new building includes better security and technological upgrades. The new building also includes the school’s Thunderdome, a gymnasium that seats 2,200 and is available to the community to use.

The planning and construction of the facility was a five-year process and cost $90 million.

Chaminade Julienne High School

This past fall Chaminade Julienne debuted Roger Glass Stadium, a $6 million sports complex.

The complex includes the stadium, Eagle Field practice field and a support building that houses locker rooms, restrooms, training room and concessions.

Miamisburg High School

The Eudon Holland Stadium is Miamisburg’s first on-site football stadium. The stadium, which seats about 5,400, cost $4.3 million.

The stadium was named after alum and former coach Eudon Holland, who donated $500,000. Before having this field, Miamisburg students played at Harmon Field for 92 years.
