AK Steel promotes longtime employee to new management role

AK Steel’s Board of Directors has promoted AK Steel Treasurer Christopher Ross to the company’s vice president and treasurer, the company said.

In that role, Ross will oversee the company’s treasury, investor relations, credit and corporate finance functions.

“I am pleased to welcome Chris to our executive team,” AK Steel’s CEO Roger Newport said in a news release. “This promotion brings additional strength and depth to AK Steel’s financial organization and to our senior leadership team.”

Ross launched his AK Steel career in 1997 as a cost accountant at Middletown Works, advancing through several financial positions including financial planning and analysis, investor relations and assistant treasurer. In 2016, he was named treasurer.

Prior to joining AK Steel, he served as director of investor relations for Omnicare, Inc. and held credit and portfolio manager positions with Star Bank and Bank One.

Ross earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA in finance from the University of Cincinnati.

Fortune 500 company AK Steel Holding Corp. is headquartered in West Chester Twp. Between operations in West Chester Twp. and its Middletown Works steel plant, AK Steel employs approximately 2,400 full-time workers in Butler County, making it the county’s third-largest employer.

AK Steel facilities in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Minnesota employ more than 8,000 altogether and produce flat-rolled carbon, electrical and stainless steels used by the automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets.
