Butler County residents suffering a mental health crisis, or someone who knows someone who needs help, can now text for help.
Beckett Springs handles the hotline for the Butler County Mental Health and Addiction Services Board, and they went live with the texting tool Thursday. People can also chat online with mental health specialists.
With more younger people calling the hotline, the board wanted to offer the most preferred communication mode for that population.
“We are really excited,” Darcy Lichnerowicz, the assessment director for Beckett Springs, said. “We are really hoping this will tap into a whole new group of people who maybe haven’t felt comfortable reaching out before and who now have a resource that’s a lot more accessible to folks, especially younger people.”
The crisis hotline number, 844-427-4747, accepts the texts and will also patch people into the Heroin Hopeline.
