The Miami Crossing JEDD has been in the making for more than a year, set in motion by rebranding efforts triggered by the adoption of the Dayton Mall master plan in December 2015.
The master plan outlined more than $200 million in proposed investment in a 2.2-square mile area around the mall, which has been a center for jobs, entertainment, dining and entertainment since the early 1970s.
A market assessment showed the plan could create 1,200 multifamily residential units, and more than 350 new jobs from thousands of square feet of new retail and office space within 12 years.

The township and the city agreed on the Miami Crossing name the following year. Rebranding efforts have been ongoing within the district, its website and Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau, among other outlets.
The Miamisburg City Council voted last week to approve the change.
