The force of a house explosion in Kettering on Tuesday morning was so powerful that the homeowner was thrown into her neighbor’s yard.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman killed in the house explosion and fire as Darlene Baumgardner, 58, who lived in the 400 block of North Claridge Drive.
Kettering firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames when they arrived shortly before 4:30 a.m. Debris from the house was spread far in the neighborhood on Tuesday.
The garage door from Baumgardner’s house was thrown almost 100 feet across North Claridge Drive into a neighbor’s driveway, and a screen door was could bee seen further away in the yard.
One house east of the exploded home sustained heat damage from the fire.
The State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the explosion and fire which Kettering Fire Chief Tom Butts says could be a natural gas explosion.
