Canoe, kayak rental firm plans site on West Carrollton riverfront

A seasonal canoe and kayak livery is expected to open this year on the Great Miami River in West Carrollton.

Adventures on the Great Miami will expand its locations in Tipp City and Troy to include a leased site on Marina Drive in West Carrollton, according to a measure approved Tuesday night.

The Miami County watercraft operation has agreed to renovate and lease a vacant building on .167 acres of riverfront land West Carrollton acquired last year.

The measure approved by West Carrollton City Council allows the city to lease the property just west of Interstate 75 from June 1, 2017 through December 2019, city records show.

Adventures on the Great Miami can use the site “for the sole purpose of launching non-motorized canoes, kayaks and shallow draft motorcraft, retail sales of canoe and kayak-related merchandise, and the rental of same,” according to city documents.

The site will operate from May 1 to Nov. 1 each year, records show.

Adventures on the Great Miami will pay West Carrollton $1,000 a month plus property taxes and utilities to operate the site. Additionally, the recreational group will “perform significant property maintenance and improvements to the building,” records show.
