Watch: Here's what an $8.8 million marina looks like

The long-awaited marina at Caesar Creek is now open.

About 20 boats are housed in the floating spaces on the lake near State Route 73. The $8.8 million first phase includes a floating concession stand, fuel facilities and “wave attenuators,” special floating barriers to manage changes in current at the lake east of Waynesville, according to Phil Miller, capital improvements administrator for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Miller said the project, which could result in a $15 million investment by the state, will meet a deficiency in boating facilities in this part of the state.

About 3 million people visit the lake every year, according to the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Eventually the marina could include 240 spaces or more, Miller said during a presentation Tuesday to the commissioners.

Park officials say they expect the boaters who received slips through a lottery will fill the marina as spring weather continues to get warmer.
