West Carrollton honoring 96-year-old WW II veteran

A 96-year-old West Carrollton resident and World War II vet will be inducted into the West Carrollton Plaza of Fame this month.

Eugene Dever has been a West Carrollton resident for 40 years and serves as treasurer for Canterbury Court’s Resident Council.

He served in the U.S. Army from August 1942 to March 1946 and in the Army Reserves from March 1946 to April 1953. He received the Bronze Star and several other medals.

Dever is a former member of the West Carrollton Historical Society and West Carrollton Rotary. He also participated in the Senior Olympics.

He has been married to his wife Charlene, for 75 years. They have two children Philip and Denise, who both graduated from West Carrollton High School.

Dever will be inducted at 6 p.m. June 27 in city council chambers at the West Carrollton Civic Center, 300 E. Central Ave.
