7 winners claim $1 million Powerball ticket sold in Butler County

A group of people will have a little extra in their stockings this holiday as seven people stepped up to claim the $1 million winning Powerball ticket that was sold at Johnson’s Grocery Store in Fairfield Twp. this past August.

Each of the winners will get $142,857.14 before taxes, according to Marie Kilbane of the Ohio Lottery.

The winners declined to be interviewed, but were okay with their names being released, she said.

According to of the Ohio Lottery, the seven winners that stepped up on Aug. 30 to submit the valid winning ticket were: Doug Horstman, Liberty Twp.; Sanshiro Abe, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Kyle Caiola, Seven Hills; Brian Chervon, McKeesport, Pa.; Matt Flickinger, Cleveland Heights; John Haller II, Parma; and Wayne Yanetta of North Ridgeville.

The ticket holders used the Ohio Lottery’s “auto pick” feature to choose their winning numbers, according to Kilbane.

“We do not have information on how they all were connected in purchasing the winning ticket,” she said.

Johnson’s Grocery, 4005 Hamilton Mason Road, received a $1,000 payment for selling the winning ticket.

The $1 million ticket sold at Johnson’, was Ohio’s largest winning ticket for the Aug. 23 Powerball drawing that had a whopping jackpot of $758.7 million.

Sue Rozhon who works at Johnson’s, told the Journal-News that people at the store knew the winning ticket was selected by “auto pick,” but little else was known about the winners.

“We had heard all kinds of rumors about who won it,” Rozhon said with a laugh. “But no we had not heard that seven people had won it. I am glad for them.”
