The events are expected to attract 60,000 people to the area and have an economic impact of $18 million.
High school and independent color guard units from across the nation, Canada, Japan, the U.K, the Netherlands and Thailand are scheduled to compete.
Competition venues for the Color Guard World Championships are the University of Dayton Arena, Dayton Convention Center, Wright State University’s Nutter Center, Cintas Center at Xavier University and Millet Hall at Miami University. The finals are at UD Arena on Saturday.
A Day After Dance class is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Sunday at UD Arena, featuring Sonya Tayeh, So You Think You Can Dance choreographer. Tickets are $25 and the doors open at 9 a.m. The class is open to the public.
The 2016 World Championships will mark the 30th year out of 39 years of competition that the event has been hosted in Dayton.
WGI Sport of the Arts has committed to hosting both or at least one — either Color Guard or Percussion and Winds — of its World Championships events in Dayton through 2019.
