Do you live in one of Ohio’s safest places?

Four of the top five safest places in Ohio are in the Cleveland metropolitan area – though the city of Cleveland ranked last – according to a study of Federal Bureau of Investigation crime statistics.

Hamilton and Clearcreek townships in Warren County were the only two Miami Valley localities to crack the top 20, ranked 15 and 18 respectively.

Bellbrook, Springboro and Germantown were in the top 30 – or highest 14 percent - of the 221 cities ranked by the personal finance website ValuePenguin.

How ValuePenguin did its analysis: “The analysis was based on FBI crime statistics for 2014, the most recent year for which full data are available. The study excluded towns with fewer than 5,000 residents because towns with small populations are more sensitive to crime score fluctuations for fewer crimes committed, according to the authors. The raw data report included property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson), and violent crimes (murder/manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) from all law enforcement agencies submitting data to the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting program.”
