Ahrens decommits from Ohio State, receives offer from Dayton

Versailles senior reopens his recruitment one day after end of Thad Matta era

Versailles High School senior Justin Ahrens received a scholarship offer from the Dayton Flyers on Tuesday, not long after announcing he was decommitting from Ohio State and reopening his recruitment.

Ahrens, a 6-foot-5 forward in the class of 2018, verbally committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Aug. 27, 2016. With Thad Matta's tenure as Ohio State's coach ending Monday, Ahrens will look at other schools, while still considering OSU.

Dayton has one scholarship open for 2018. Darrell Davis will be the only senior on the roster next season.

Ahrens is the 160th-ranked prospect in 2018, according to 247Sports.com. Rivals.com ranks him  126th. He was the All-Ohio Division III Co-Player of the Year.
