Bengals guard Zeitler riding iron-man streak into finale

The playoffs may not be on the line, but a “no plays off” streak will be for one Bengals player.

Right guard Kevin Zeitler has played 100 percent of the 1,019 offensive snaps this year.

“I don’t know if it’s pride, it’s just what you do,” Zeitler said. “It’s kind of crazy because I was looking back at last year and I missed snaps where you come out a play here, come out a play there.

“It’s not something I’ve really thought about, but of course I want to finish it out,” he added. “I want to be out there. It’s my job. It’s my team. Hopefully that happens.”

Zeitler is the only Bengals player who has not missed a snap on offense or defense this season, and his consecutive snap streak stands at 1,348 dating back to last season. He hasn’t missed a play since the starters were pulled late in the 37-3 win at Cleveland last year.

There could be more football for Zeitler after Sunday given that he was voted a second alternate to the Pro Bowl. But those might be snaps he turns down given that he is set to be an unrestricted free agent and the memory of teammate Tyler Eifert’s injury in last year’s game is still fresh in his mind.

“If I get a call, it will be a tough decision, especially with Eifert’s comments and what happened to him last year,” he said. “And especially with how big this offseason is. We’ll see when it comes and we’ll make the right decision if that opportunity presents itself.”
