Coaches: Scott Nagy is 9-5 in his first season at Wright State and 419-245 in 22 seasons, all previously at South Dakota State. A former Detroit Mercy standout, Bacari Alexander is in his first season as the Titans head coach following six seasons as a University of Michigan assistant. A Detroit native, he also spent two years touring with the Harlem Globetrotters prior to starting his coaching career.
About Wright State: A three-game win streak was snapped in Thursday's Horizon League opener at Oakland (Mich.), 81-62. … Mark Alstork again led in scoring (21 points) but also was charged with seven turnovers … He's third in the HL in scoring (20.4) and leads WSU in assists (3.1). … Steven Davis (15.1 points, 4.5 rebounds) is having a solid senior season after recovering from a series of injuries that have plagued his collegiate career.
About Detroit Mercy: Northern Kentucky rallied in the second half to overcome Detroit 81-70 in another HL opener on Thursday at Calihan Hall. … Hogan neared a triple-double with a career high 22 points, eight rebounds and eight blocks. … That was the most blocks for a Titans player in a game since 2001 and matches the HL season high that UIC's Tai Odiase put on Texas-San Antonio. … He leads the HL in shooting percentage (60.8), which also is good for 23rd nationally. … The Titans have found their bomber range, ranking third in the league in 3-point FG percentage (36.2). They've hit 33 of 67 threes (49.2 percent) in the last three games.
Coach's take: "We just have to get tougher," Nagy said after the Oakland loss. "That has to happen."
Coming up: This marks the seventh road game in the last eight contests for WSU, which played just once at the Nutter Center in December. That quickly changes with home games against Cleveland State on Thursday and Youngstown State on Jan. 7.
