Iowa basketball’s Cordell Pemsl heads to hospital for injured leg

Iowa sophomore forward Cordell Pemsl is headed to the hospital to have his right leg looked at according to coach Fran McCaffery.

Pemsl went into the crowd and hit a chair while diving for a ball late in the second half of the Hawkeyes’ 84-78 loss to Iowa State on Thursday.

According to McCaffery, the injury is not as bad as they had feared but they won’t know the extent until Pemsl gets to the hospital.

“Hoping it’s not broken,” the coach said. “Don’t know if it is. Hope it’s not.”

Pemsl was having  a solid game for the Hawkeyes with 10 points and eight rebounds before the injury.

Coming into the game, he was averaging 5.8 points per game and 5.7 rebounds so far this year.
