Have Michigan State recruiting questions? We’ve got answers. Join us every Thursday for the  Land of 10 Michigan State recruiting mailbag to discuss Spartans recruiting. Send your questions via  Twitter and  Facebook, or email us at  lucas.srodulski@coxinc.com.

We’ve only got two more recruiting mailbags, including this one, before the early signing period for football begins on Dec. 20. Keep sending in those questions, and we’ll do our best to give you up-to-date insight.

What’s the story with Michigan State’s running back and defensive tackle targets?

With so few spots remaining, there’s no guarantee both of these spots get filled by one more recruit. Michigan State is looking to finish out the 2018 class with the best players it can get, but it has plenty of different positions in mind.

At running back, La’Darius Jefferson looks most likely to commit. The Muskegon (Mich.) quarterback, a 3-star recruit in the 247Sports composite ratings, picked up a Michigan State offer as an athlete. However, he said he’s been hearing most from the staff about playing running back. Linebacker and quarterback haven’t been ruled out.

I’m not sure there will be any spots remaining at defensive tackle by the time some prospects are ready to commit. Bolingbrook (Ill.) DT Dashaun Mallory long has wanted to commit but continues to work toward some requirements to make it possible. Timpview (Provo, Utah) DT Jackson Cravens would be an important get, but he still wants to finish taking all of his official visits before he decides.

Why will MSU not sign any Illinois recruits, especially with the success in the past with Raequan Williams, Mike Panasiuk, and Kevin Jarvis?

First off, I wouldn’t totally rule out Dashaun Mallory signing quite yet. Every day that passes without a commitment makes it seem a little less likely, but it’s still a possibility.

That said, I know what you mean. Michigan State has found plenty of success recruiting the Chicago area, and there’s no lack of talent in the area for this class. But when Michigan State offered Chicago recruits in this cycle, they often either were committed somewhere or would commit elsewhere days later, without getting a chance to visit.

I don’t think it’s a symptom of falling out of favor with Chicago coaches. Michigan State simply found the players it wanted elsewhere and didn’t prioritize the Chicago area as much in years past.

Do you expect anyone outside the 19 guys committed to Michigan State to sign on Dec. 20?

By this, I assume you’re asking if anyone else will commit to the class in time to sign two weeks from now. Nothing is for sure, but I think there’s a solid chance Michigan State will have one player signing early who is not currently committed. That’s all I will say at this point. Christmas might come a bit early for fans.
